The Parish Council consists of 7 people from the village who are elected to represent the views of residents. We currently do not have any vacancies for more Councillors.

We hold full council meetings 6 times a year including the annual meeting, and Annual Parish Meeting. in May. Members of the public are welcome to attend any of the meetings and can speak on items of concern during the public forum near the start of the meeting.  Councillors are unpaid members and we are guided by a professional Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer.

The Parish Council is funded by a precept- a small part of your council tax- and our work includes the following:

Planning

The Parish Council is a statutory consultee on planning issues - we are allowed to comment on all planning applications made for developments in the village.  Major proposals always raise a lot of interest amongst residents and we hold additional planning meetings if necessary.  Parish Councils do not make the final decision on planning matters, that is the job of East Suffolk Council, but we try to represent the views of the village as effectively as possible.

Local community

We support Hacheston Village Hall with an ongoing contribution to the costs of maintaining Fairfield Green. We contribute to the cost of maintaining the churchyard and we can make donations to local charities.

Local issues

Traffic has long been a concern in our village and the plans to build a large Park and Ride in the parish, part of the massive Sizewell C project, are not welcome. The council will do its best to represent the village’s concerns.

You should find information on this website about these issues. If you wish to know more or you would like to raise any other matter please contact the clerk on: clerk@hacheston-pc.gov.uk
