Community Action Suffolk run a local Community Car Scheme based in Framlingham and covering Hacheston. This transports members of the community who have no car of their own and cannot access public transport for their journeys, to the shops, visiting relatives, doctors, dentists and hospitals. The passenger pays the driver 35 pence per mile round trip. For Bookings please call 01728 621210 and try to allow 7 days notice.
CAS would like to encourage some more volunteer drivers to come forward, they would be given some training and asked to undertake a DBS check. The driver would have to have their own car and confirm they have insurance cover. The driver keeps the 35 pence per mile that the passenger pays and gets an additional 10 pence per mile from Suffolk County Council.
It would also be great if there was anyone who would like to volunteer taking bookings in the office in Framlingham for a couple of hours a week would contact us too. I am sure you will agree that this type of scheme can be vital in helping maintain a level of independence and would hope that you could help us promote the service.
