We have recently heard that the mayoral elections planned for May 2026 have been postponed until 2028. We do not yet know what will happen with the County Council elections which were also due in 2026.

The Government is running a consultation on how Suffolk should be organised in the future. Options include a single Unitary Council supported by Suffolk County Council or three Unitary Councils as preferred by the District and Borough Councils. Please take a few minutes to share your views as these changes will affect us all.
The consultation is titled Consultation on Proposals for Local Government Reorganisation in Norfolk and Suffolk on the Ministry of Housing Communities and Local Government website. The Suffolk proposals are numbers 4 and 5 near the bottom of the page. The deadline for responses is 11^th January 2026.
