Residents are advised that early preparation has begun on a new East Suffolk Local Plan, which will guide how and where development takes place across the district up to at least 2044. The plan will cover housing, employment land, infrastructure, and community facilities. Once adopted, it will replace the existing Suffolk Coastal and Waveney Local Plans. Adoption is anticipated in 2029.

Call for Sites – Update

As part of the initial stages, East Suffolk Council held a Call for Sites between 20th October 2025 and 9th January 2026. This invited landowners, developers, and members of the public to submit land for potential inclusion in the new Local Plan.

East Suffolk Council has now published an interactive map showing the locations of the submitted sites and their proposed uses, such as housing or employment.

Residents can view the map here:

Important Information for Residents

At this early stage, the published map is for information only. It is intended to provide transparency about the land that has been suggested for consideration. Key points to note include:

  • No decisions have been made about which sites will be included in the new Local Plan.
  • No assessments have yet been undertaken on the submitted sites.
  • The sites shown do not have any planning status as a result of their submission.
  • Submissions could be made by any individual or organisation, not necessarily the landowner.
  • The new Local Plan will be informed by evidence, technical assessments, and future public consultations.
  • Existing allocations and planning permissions are not shown on this map.
  • Additional sites may come forward later in the process.

While communities may wish to comment, formal feedback is not being invited at this stage. Opportunities for public consultation will be provided as the Local Plan progresses.

Stay Informed

Residents who wish to be notified about future consultations can join East Suffolk Council’s mailing list via their website. Town and Parish Councils will be notified automatically.
