Hacheston Parish Council is pleased to announce that we will be purchasing a new village sign for the community. Our current sign is now over 50 years old and is in need of some TLC!  We plan on restoring this and hope to display it elsewhere in the village so that it is preserved and continues to be enjoyed in the future. 

We would love residents to help design the new sign. You are welcome to send written suggestions, or, if you’re feeling creative, you could draw a full design. All ideas will be considered at our next Parish Council meeting in November, and we would really like to have residents involved in the process.

To help get ideas flowing, our working group has identified several themes linked to Hacheston’s heritage that could be incorporated:

• Roman settlement – such as an amphora or a Roman centurion

• Anglo‑Saxon origins – the village name means Haecci’s Farmstead

• All Saints Church – with origins around 800 AD and recorded in the Domesday Book

• Hacheston Halt – the former request‑stop steam train station, closed around 1963

• Farming and agriculture – crops or wheatsheaf motifs inspired by the original sign

• River Ore – an important part of the local landscape
