Hacheston Parish Council would like to inform residents of an upcoming planning application for a 50MW battery energy storage facility proposed by Balance Power. The planned site is located directly south of the Wickham Market Substation (IP13 0DZ), between Hacheston and Parham.

As part of the early consultation process, Balance Power are currently distributing information flyers to local households. These will include details about the project and its intended benefits.

According to the developer, the site has been chosen for its natural screening, distance from residential properties (over 220 metres), and proximity to existing grid and road infrastructure. The proposal also includes plans for landscaping improvements, enhanced drainage, and safe site access.

The facility is intended to support East Suffolk’s and the UK’s net-zero targets by storing renewable energy for use during periods of peak demand. More information about the project is available on Balance Power’s website:

Hacheston Parish Council encourages residents to review the materials once distributed and to share their views. Councillors will be meeting with the consultation team to better understand the proposal and its potential local impact.

We will continue to keep residents updated as the planning process progresses.
